On Sunday, more than 400 underserved children were provided with free backpacks and school supplies at JFSLA’s annual Tools for School event, organized by JFSLA’s Young Leaders, a diverse group of community-minded individuals who support JFSLA’s mission through volunteerism, philanthropy, and social events.
Residents of Los Angeles County, California, are offered the opportunity to benefit from Jewish Family Service LA, a leading Jewish social services agency, where a team of professionals supports people who are experiencing anxiety, depression, change, and uncertainty in their lives.
At its Board Installation ceremony on Sunday, July 14th, Jewish Family Service LA appointed Tami Kagan-Abrams as Board Chair for the 2024-2026 term. With over a decade of service as a JFSLA Board member, Tami has held pivotal roles, including Chair of the Public Policy and Programs Committee, and has contributed to several other program committees as well.
The following are excerpts from a speech given by Eli Veitzer, JFSLA President & CEO, at the July 14th Board of Directors installation ceremony. Jewish Family Service LA (JFSLA), the leading Jewish social services agency in Los Angeles, has been honored as a 2024 California Nonprofit of the Year for the second consecutive year. The recognition comes from California Assemblymember Isaac Bryan of District 55, highlighting JFSLA’s impactful contributions to the Los Angeles community.

Every Friday at the Jona Goldrich Multipurpose Center’s gym, JFSLA volunteer Lee Lahmy empowers seniors to stay active by sharing her fitness expertise and inspiring them with her optimistic outlook on life.
“From My Family to Yours” is a true celebration of the intergenerational and multicultural connection. The more than 100 pages of culinary delights reflect the rich tapestry of cultural heritage within Los Angeles.
More than 85,000 Californians over the age of 50 are homeless on any given night. Nearly half of single homeless adults are aged 50 or older, and that percentage is increasing, with seniors now the fastest-growing segment of the homeless population.
Becoming a dad is a life-changing event, but still many new dads don’t have the support needed to help transition into fatherhood. In response, support groups like New Dads Connect at Jewish Family Services LA have filled in this gap.

May is Jewish American Heritage Month, and a unique weekly gathering spreads joy among a vulnerable community of Jews in Los Angeles. Music fills the air in a room high above the Fairfax district, and the crowd dances to the beat.
