JFSLA’s Public Policy: Advocating at a Critical Time

As the nation faces a challenging and constantly evolving political reality, JFSLA’s public policy work is more crucial than ever to help ensure that the communities that we serve, particularly the most vulnerable people in Los Angeles, are not negatively impacted by decisions made at all levels of government.
JFSLA’s Public Policy team advocates at the federal, state, county, and city levels to influence laws, funding initiatives, and advocate for policies that directly benefit the people of our community, including older adults, individuals experiencing homelessness or food insecurity, survivors of domestic violence, those receiving mental health services, young families, and more. JFSLA is committed to ensuring that community members and families have the resources they need to live with dignity and self-determination.
JFSLA’s advocacy efforts have led to significant policy wins that directly impact the people we serve. For example, we were instrumental in securing funding at the state level for domestic violence survivors, ensuring that critical services remain available in the face of budget cuts. Similarly, our work with the local government has helped secure funding for services aimed at supporting older adults in Los Angeles, addressing the unique needs of aging populations. We understand that addressing these systemic issues requires a comprehensive approach, and we work to ensure that the policies put in place at all levels of government align with our values of compassion, dignity, and justice.
These successes are also the result of strong partnerships with policymakers, other organizations, and community leaders. We regularly invite policymakers to visit our facilities, where they can witness firsthand the impact of their work as legislators. Whether it is seeing how families experiencing hunger access food and community support or how safe our domestic violence survivors feel in our shelters, these experiences deepen their understanding of the issues we advocate for.
In this critical time, JFSLA is committed to staying informed and being responsive to shifting political dynamics, ensuring we can address emerging challenges and advocate effectively in an ever-changing landscape.
As we continue to fight for the policies that matter most to our community, we need your help. Advocacy is a collective effort, and your involvement is crucial. By staying engaged with JFSLA’s public policy alerts and reaching out to your city and county elected officials, state senators and assemblymembers, and members of the California congressional delegation in Washington, DC, you can help ensure that policymakers truly understand what their constituents need. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that no one has to navigate life alone.
