JFS Hope Dedicates “Linda’s Library & Art Space” in Memory of Linda Levine 

JFS Hope has dedicated the Linda’s Library & Art Space at the Hope North emergency domestic violence shelter in memory of Linda Levine, a passionate supporter of JFS Hope’s services.  

Linda Levine, of blessed memory, was an entertainer and philanthropist, but most of all a devoted mother, wife, sister, and friend. Linda was a tireless champion of domestic violence awareness and dedicated herself to helping survivors. She began as a volunteer at one of JFS Hope’s domestic violence shelters, where she and her daughter, Sophie, would deliver items that women and their children needed, such as diapers, clothing, and toiletries – anything to help make the families in the shelter feel more comfortable at home. 

Linda’s involvement with JFS Hope grew over the years. With her friend Wendy Silver, she co-founded Laughing Matters, a night of comedy to benefit JFS Hope’s domestic violence services. Over the years, Laughing Matters raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for JFS Hope’s critical services. At JFSLA’s 2020 Gala, Linda was posthumously honored with the Anita & Stanley Hirsh Award, in recognition of her outstanding compassion and commitment to survivors of domestic violence.  

Linda’s Library & Art Space  is a joyful area where children and families are welcomed to read books, make art, and relax. The area also includes an exhibition of artwork created by residents living in the shelter.
