Donor Profile: Rachael Kallick
Leading with Compassion
In 2017, Rachael Kallick was looking for a way to give back to her community, when she heard about JFSLA’s Young Leaders program. JFSLA’s Young Leaders is a dynamic and diverse group of community-minded individuals, ages 21 to 40, committed to furthering JFSLA’s mission through volunteerism, philanthropy, and social events. From the beginning, Rachael was inspired by the impact of JFSLA’s crucial services.
“I was drawn to the scope of the work that JFSLA does and the incredible impact we’re able to have on so many Angelenos, regardless of their background or religion,” said Rachael.
She was also enthusiastic about the opportunity to use her professional skills for a cause she felt passionate about. As the current VP of Global Marketing and Communications at Moishe House and 13 years at 9th Wonder Agency in West Hollywood, Rachael’s experience as a marketing and communications executive has been instrumental in shaping JFSLA’s own marketing and communications efforts.
In 2020, Rachael took on the role of Young Leaders Co-Chair and joined the JFSLA Board, contributing her time and expertise to committees such as the Resource Development, Public Policy, and the Strategic Planning Task Force. In addition, Rachael serves as Co-Chair of JFSLA’s Marketing Committee. In 2019, Rachael partnered with JFSLA Senior Director of Communications, Michael Sidman, to help guide the agency’s rebranding efforts. Rachael played an invaluable role in helping to shape the messaging and visual representation of the agency that has since become recognizable across Los Angeles. She also helped the Communications team create a new website for the agency. Rachael’s guidance continues to elevate JFSLA’s brand recognition and communication strategies, helping to strengthen JFSLA’s reputation and reach. Rachael finds great fulfillment in cross-committee collaboration and enjoys helping shape the organization’s strategic direction.
Rachael is especially passionate about JFSLA’s Raising Baby program. This free, live online program offers essential support to new parents through a parent coach and early childhood clinician, helping them navigate the overwhelming experience of starting a family. As a parent of two young children, Rachael understands the first-hand challenges that come with raising a baby and the importance of having the right support system in place.
“This program is so important because it helps new parents feel less alone as they navigate early parenthood,” said Rachael. “I’d recommend that donors learn more about this work and the different ways we offer support. You’ll be surprised by the scope of what we do and the impact we’re having—and you’ll be inspired to get more involved or make a donation.”
Reflecting on her commitment to JFSLA, Rachael shared that the most rewarding aspect has been learning about JFSLA’s expansive programs.
“After being involved for seven years, I’m still amazed that every Board meeting I attend or site I visit, I learn about something new that we’re doing or a need we’re fulfilling in the community,” said Rachael.
She encourages others to join the JFSLA family. For new donors, Rachael has one piece of advice: “Get involved! Visit our meal sites, attend a briefing, or volunteer at SOVA. Each experience will open your eyes to the incredible work being done and inspire you to give and engage further.”
Over the years, Rachael’s support for JFSLA has only deepened, as has her commitment to helping the people of Los Angeles. Whenever she has the opportunity, Rachael volunteers with JFSLA. In October, she volunteered at JFSLA’s voting center at the Jona Goldrich Multipurpose Center, helping seniors exercise their right to vote, an initiative provided by the JFSLA Public Policy team. Outside of JFSLA, Rachael serves on committees at Temple Isaiah and at both of her children’s schools.
