Volunteers are the heart of JFS. Throughout each year, more than 1,300 people of all ages, races and ethnicities donate their time to JFS. Volunteers contribute more than 200,000 hours of service each year and view their work as essential, relevant and meaningful.

Throughout our website you can read about the wide-variety of volunteer opportunities offered at JFS. Below you will find a list of our most pressing current volunteer needs. If you are interested in one of these openings, please fill out the Volunteer Application, indicate that information in the comments section of the volunteer application.


Computer Aides: The JFS { Freda Mohr Center is looking for a volunteer to assist and monitor older adults who are eager to use the computer lab for basic computing skills. We are also intersted in offering regular classes on computer skills - from basic to more advanced. Two days per week: Monday & Friday. 2.5 hours per shift, flexible per your schedule.

Transportation Call Center Aides: The JFS { Felicia Mahood Senior Center, located on the Westside of Los Angeles is seeking volunteers to help coordinate calls relating to their transportation schedule. Volunteers are needed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Older Adult Fitness Center Assistants: The JFS { Eichenbaum Older Adult Fitness Center, located in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, is seeking several volunteers to help with a variety of tasks including providing assistance to senior citizens using ergonomically supportive fitness equipment, schedule fitness assessments, greet clients, and take phone calls. Volunteers are needed from 12 pm -3pm on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Telecheck Callers: Volunteers are needed to make daily phone calls to check-in with homebound older and disabled adults living alone. Volunteers can make calls from home, or, use office space at our West Hollywood location. Regular volunteers are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Babysitters: Volunteers are needed at our Pico-Robertson Family Resource Center and our Valley Storefront Senior Center in Van Nuys to supervise children while parents participate in support groups.

Please note that we are unable to furfill court ordered community sevice hours.

Social services for Nazi victims have been supported by a grant from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany.
JFSLA receives funds from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Holocaust Survivor Emergency Assistance Fund, administered by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for the benefit of needy Jewish Nazi victims.
Funds have been provided by the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany for the Emergency Assistance Program for Nazi Victims at the discretion of the United States District Court supervising the lawsuit In Re: Holocaust Victim Assets Litigation (Swiss Banks).
